Woman dies in off-road rollover accident

A 49-year-old woman from El Centro died after the sand-rail vehicle she was riding in flipped.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers say the fatal accident took place last Sunday around 3:45 p.m. on a private property located on Fawcett and Pitzer Road in Heber.

Authorities say four people were riding on the sand rail and none of them were wearing their seat belt. Three other passengers sustained minor injuries. CHP officials say they want to remind the public to stay safe during the holidays.

“The California Highway Patrol just wants to remind the motoring public that during this time, I know that school kids are out of school as well as there are some time off work, to be very careful so we can enter the new year,” says Fernando Alvarez, CHP officer.

Officers say they are still working to determine what caused the vehicle to rollover.
