Man arrested for threatening Yuma Councilman during City Council meeting

A man is behind bars for allegedly threatening a Yuma City Council member at Wednesday’s City Council meeting.

William Traphagan, 38, made his first court appearance Thursday. He has been formally charged for allegedly threatening a council member during Wednesday’s council meeting.

His bond was set at $1,360, according to court officials.

His next court hearing is scheduled for January 5, 2017.

Police say the suspect, 38-year-old William Traphagan, allegedly wrote a threat on a piece of paper intended for one of the councilmen. A witness saw the note and reported it.

A Yuma police officer at the meeting was notified of the note and arrested Traphagan.

According to the Yuma County Detention Center, Traphagan was booked on one count of threatening or intimidating with injury or damage of property.
