Accident leaves man with serious head injuries

The Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department responded to a collision involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and a Jeep on County 19th between Avenue C and D.

Fire officials say the driver of the Jeep rammed into the back of the ATV rider on Sunday at around 6:30 p.m.

A 21-year-old man was seriously injured on his head and hands and a 24-year-old woman suffered minor injuries, mainly complaining about shoulder pains. Both of them were taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center; the man was later flown to a Phoenix area hospital.

Officials say they see a lot of accidents in the area of County 19th between Avenue C and D. They would like to remind drivers to be extra careful this time of year and make sure they’re wearing a helmet at all times and stopping for other vehicles.
