Yuma renews deal to keep historic parks under city control

The city of Yuma will continue to operate two historic parks after officials approved a long-term agreement with Arizona State Parks.

The Yuma Sun reports that the city council on Thursday approved a deal that will keep the city in charge of Yuma

Quartermaster Depot and Yuma Territorial Prison for another 15 years.

Yuma has operated, maintained and managed the facilities since 2010, when the state agency was planning to close the sites because of the recession. The city and the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area stepped in and offered to lease the parks.
