Suspected car thief D’Andre Jermain Norman arrested in Yuma
Police have arrested the suspect in last week’s car theft and police chase. Police say they have arrested 19-year-old D’Andre Jermain Norman, who is suspected of stealing several vehicles and leading police on a chase throughout the city.
Norman was arrested on Madison Avenue and 18th Street Monday night after a brief pursuit. According to YPD, Norman borrowed a car and the owner called police after finding out about the warrants in his name.
YPD and the U.S. Marshals Service both tailed the suspect’s vehicle and Norman lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another car on Madison Avenue.
Norman was arrested on foot about a block away from the accident.
Norman was wanted for stealing a red Chevy truck Tuesday, Nov. 28 from the Hampton Inn in Yuma and driving it to Winterhaven, California through the Ocean to Ocean Bridge.
The Quechan Police Deptartment then started pursuing the vehicle at a high speed but lost the truck on Fourth Avenue in Yuma.
Officers then spotted the truck again and continued the pursuit. The suspect hit another truck and also hit a wall near 20th Street and 14th Avenue.
Officers say Norman got away on foot.
Norman has a lengthy criminal history.
Norman has been booked into the Yuma County Detention Center three times since June. On June 2, Norman was booked for domestic violence assault, domestic violence disorderly conduct and an in-state out-of-county warrant.
Norman was released July 6 to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Norman’s next arrest was on October 24 when he was booked for another in-state out-of-county warrant, criminal damage per domestic violence and criminal nuisance.
Norman was released October 26 to Maricopa County.
On November 7, Norman was booked once again for misdemeanor theft of controlled property, felony theft control property and theft of intent to permanently deprive.
Norman was released on November 9 as no complaint was filed.
Since being released, Norman is believed to have stolen at least five vehicles and caused at least two hit-and-run accidents sending at least one victim to the hospital.
