Police investigate assault claims

The Yuma Police Department is looking deeper into an incident where a woman claims she was the victim of an assault.

Officers issued a press release on Wednesday which states that, on November 29, officers were called out to Yuma Regional Medical Center in reference to an assault victim.

When officers got there, they say the 56-year-old woman was only able to remember leaving Walmart on Pacific Avenue and Palo Verde Street.

The woman was taken to the hospital due to the severity of her injuries.

On Tuesday, December 6, police say the woman called investigators claiming she was able to remember a black man, 45-50 years of age, driving a burgundy passenger car, possibly a Ford Focus. That’s who she believes assaulted her.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the YPD at (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.
