Police respond to attempted homicide

A man is currently in surgery after a shooting at the Maverick Bar on Fourth Avenue.

The Yuma Police Department responded just after 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Originally, police said they found an ” Indian” man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. It has been confirmed the man is Native American.

Officers secured the area and tracked shoe impressions that went southbound through the alleyway and then turning west into private yards.

While searching the area, authorities found a magazine from a handgun, a handgun and clothing – all believed to have been used by the shooter.

The unidentified victim is currently in surgery at Yuma Regional Medical Center and is unable to speak to detectives at last check.

There are currently no suspects in this case.

Anyone with information is urged to call Yuma Police or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.
