Donate Bikes for Children in need
It started as a “vision” at a church in Mexicali, when thousands of bikes were given away to children in need for the holidays. Pastor Castro wanted to make this a reality in San Luis.
“Why don’t I do this in San Luis? Arizona area? Many children enjoy good gifts like computers, ipods… you know? Bicycles are a very very tremendous blessing, and we pray… and use the willing of God, and God opened doors.”
Pastor Castro from Gethsemani Baptist Church, shared his vision with San Luis Police Officer. Luis Marquez. Marquez and the rest of SLPD joined in on the cause, collecting new and used bicycles in the Yuma County.
Marquez says, “We had the support of our chiefs, any event that we do for the community, that helps the community, educates the community, we’re partnered with anybody who wants to do something like this, this is a great event!”
Castro reached out to schools in the area, and even outside the border for children in need of a bike.
“If somebody call us and they need it, we can share the blessing too.”
This is the ninth year for Castro, and he’s hoping to giveaway more than 100 bicycles this holiday season.
“Some children, girl or boy..that they never had one bicycle and they don’t have the resource to buy one, just call us and we can bless these children.”
You can drop off any used or new bike at the San Luis Police Department, The Gethsemani Baptist Church, or San Luis P.D. can pick up your bike at your home.
Pastor Castro would like to thank everyone who has donated bikes and has been apart of the cause including:
-San Luis Police Department, Officer Luis Marquez, Phoenix Missionaries, Blue point.
