Woman dozes off driving, lands in embankment

An unidentified El Centro woman drove off the road and landed in an embankment at North Imperial Avenue and Aten Road in El Centro on Friday morning. Police secured the area while a tow truck came to pull the car out. The woman said she was driving to work after dropping her daughter off first. On the road, she dozed off, veered off the road, and jolted awake when the car landed at the bottom of the embankment. Even though she didn’t suffer any injuries, she said she was too embarrassed by the accident to make comments on camera. But she did say she won’t sleep and drive again.

To save lives from sleep-related crashes, the first week of November has been named “Drowsy Driving Prevention Week” by the National Sleep Foundation.
