Mother of Anthony Ramirez pleads for justice after son’s death

After weeks of investigating a shooting that occurred at the Lothlorien Apartment complex in Yuma, police are still attempting to close the case involving the death of 24 year-old Anthony Ramirez. Yuma police said Ramirez was shot and killed by a man that has not been identified by officials.

While the case is still being analyzed by the District Attorney’s office and YPD, Ramirez’s mother, Maribel Ramos, said she is devastated by the loss.

Ramos said she is questioning why a gun was involved in the incident, and said she believed he was not a threat to anyone.

“Never, never did I imagine someone would take his life,” Ramos said.

“Seeing the way he was with people. He was outgoing, he spoke to everyone and he was friendly to everyone. So I never thought anyone would take his life.”

Ramos said her son was a vibrant person who always looked for ways to help others.

There was no need to take his life. My grandson is left without a father. I am left without a son,” Ramos said. “This hurts the entire family.”

Ramos said she believes some form of justice must be taken into account, but she also said she does not feel hatred toward the man who shot her son.

“I don’t hate this man, I don’t want vengeance,” Ramos said. “I’m not angry with him. All I want is justice. If this man thought he was doing the right thing, now I have to leave it in the hands of authorities. They need to look into this case very carefully.”

Ramos said she met with the detective handling the case on Wednesday, but authorities have yet to determine whether a charge will be made.
