Immigration form fee increase starting December

Chicanos Por La Causa, a non-profit organization that was established in Phoenix, is announcing changes that will be made to immigration form fees. The Chicanos Por La Causa office in Somerton focuses on family and immigration services and they uphold the mission to preserve family unity. “Chicanos Por La Causa is proud to say we’ve been providing immigration services since 1980,” Villegas said. “We have a pretty long trajectory of helping the public achieve their immigration needs.” As of December 23, fees that come with filling out immigration document, such as green card applications or family member petitions will be raised, up to 95% from its original price. “We are promoting a call to action in the next couple of weeks we are going to experience a fee increase at the USCIS level meaning that the majority of their immigration benefits applications are going up in price some of them are even going up as much as 95 percent.” Immigration specialist and Chicanos Por La Causa consultant, Emmanuel Villegas, said people should consider filing any incomplete documentation immediately, before the deadline. “If you’ve been thinking about filing a petition for a family member or you are up for citizenship and you haven’t really thought of it as much you should probably make a plan.”

Villegas said he encourages everyone in need of assistance to visit the office in Somerton.

“It might seem insignificant that, it’s just a fee increase,” Villegas said. “They’re hiking up fees like they’ve always done in the past couple years. But it just goes to show you how fast things can change and the fact that you do have resources in your community and we are available to offer help.”
