Veterans Day Parade celebrated in Yuma

The Yuma community paid tribute to all of our country’s greatest heroes in the annual Veterans Day parade this morning.

The event is looked forward to all year; landing on the the eleventh month, designated the official end of World War I.Thousands from the community come together on Fourth Avenue showing their support to local veterans.

“Both sides of the highway you see people out there cheering, they recognize who you are, there’s a lot of patriotism here in this community,” said John Dewitt, a member of the Marine Corps League who has participated in the parade for the fifth year in a row.

Groups, clubs and schools within the community march down the annual parade showing their red, white, and blue. A member from the Knights from Columbus describes everyone’s dedication as a service to our community.

“Veterans Day is an opportunity to come out and honor our Veterans, those who have served us. To a community like Yuma that has the Marine Corps Air Station and Army Proving Ground out there, this is a big Veteran, a big Veteran Community, it’s a great opportunity, in fact most of us that are marching our veterans ourselves.”
