School administrator sentenced to probation

A former school administrator in Arizona has been sentenced to probation for sending inappropriate text messages to a 17-year-old female student.

Ernesto Aguiniga has been sentenced to a 36 months of supervised probation and will have to register as a sex offender. He pleaded guilty to sexual abuse last month.

Yuma County Superior Court Judge Maria Elena Cruz said the sex offender level that Aguiniga will be assigned has not yet been determined.

Cruz had the option of sentencing Aguiniga to serve up to one year in county jail but did not do so. She warned him that she will sentence him to between six months and 2 1/2 years in prison if he willingly violates any of the conditions of his probation.
