Man dies following Yuma shooting

Yuma police said one person has died following a domestic disturbance at a local apartment complex. Police responded to Lothlorien Apartments Wednesday at 9:07 p.m. in reference to shots fired.

Officers said when they arrived they found 24-year-old Anthony Ramirez on the ground, unresponsive, with a gunshot wound. Police said Ramirez was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center where he died for his injury.

YPD said the initial investigation revealed a physical domestic fight took place between Ramirez and his girlfriend who lives at Lothlorien Apartments. Police said a person in the area witnessing the event, a 21-year-old man, stepped forward and intervened. Officers then said an altercation took place between Ramirez and the witness and the man shot Ramirez.

No charges have been filed at this time. The case is still under investigation.
