Yuma County prepares for Election Day

Yuma County officials have been gearing up for this year’s Presidential Election, by encouraging the community to participate in early voting.

County officials say early voter turn out this year has been very successful.

Kevin Tunell , Yuma County Communications Director, said election preparation began a few weeks before the anticipated General Election date.

Tunell said over fifty thousand early ballots were sent out to Yuma residents, over the last few weeks.

“So far we’ve sent out roughly fifty-two thousand early ballots,” Tunell said. “And about twenty-six thousand have been returned today.”

County officials and volunteers will spend the week before the election setting up voter equipment and preparing ballot verification tools.

“Before election day, there’s a lot of training, equipment set up and verification,” Tunell said. “Within the next week we [will be] and setting up the vote center that [opens] at 6 a.m. and [closes] at 7 p.m..”

The early voting registration deadline was on October 28th. However, people are still able to vote early, by visiting the Yuma County Recorder’s Office on Maiden Lane and pick up a ballot.

“We do anticipate a very large turnout so we ask that the public keep that in mind,” said Tunell. “There could be small waits, we’re not anticipating large waits, but please bare with us. This is a very large election.”

“So far we’ve sent out roughly fifty-two thousand early ballots, and about twenty-six thousand have been returned today.”
