Ballet Yuma at Desert View Academy

The Ballet of Yuma presents Peter and the Wolf today at Desert View Academy in Yuma. Students clapped and cheered with excitement for the ballet company’s performance. Desert View Academy was one of the local schools that decided to provide kids with this exclusive experience. It costs the school $2 for each student, now Ballet Yuma is hoping that donations from the community will help provide presentations for more schools in the county without cost.

Jennifer Coleman from Ballet Yuma says, “Some students don’t have the opportunity to actually go to the ballet due to expenses so if we can bring it to the schools, the ballet, the music…This is something many students don’t get to see so if we can bring it to them its a great opportunity for us to be able to bring it to them and how it can help build character and provide the arts in a different way.”.

Fifth grade teacher at Desert View Academy, Sabrina Foster, also thinks it helps the children build character.

“As the fifth grade language arts teacher I really think my kids take away the creativity that the play offers. It allows them to go back in the classroom and drum up their own plays and allow them to be creative which is what we look for here at DVA.”

The ballet company is hoping to provide more experiences like these as the holidays approach with more performances in store.
