Yuma County mayors unite against Prop 205
The proposition to legalize recreational marijuana in Arizona is gaining momentum from both sides of the coin.
Now, four mayors and the Yuma County board of Supervisors are speaking out against the proposition in an unprecedented statement.
On Thursday night, the mayors of Yuma, Wellton, San Luis, the mayor-elect of Somerton, and the Chairman of the Yuma County Board of Supervisors issued the following statement:
“To the Citizens of Yuma County:
The societal implications of the proposed Proposition 205 to legalize recreational use of marijuana are far reaching and permanent to the people of our communities. That is why, we, the Mayor of Yuma, the Mayor of San Luis, the Mayor-Elect of Somerton, the Mayor of Wellton as well as the Chairman of the Yuma County Board of Directors, have resolved to come together as one voice.
We vehemently oppose Proposition 205. This initiative brings greater public safety risk to our communities and yields little benefits for Arizonans. In Colorado, DUI’s have risen exponentially in marijuana friendly states, and hospitalizations related to marijuana have risen 32 percent. This is not the path we want for our citizens nor the state of Arizona. Please learn more about this 20-page initiative and vote NO this November 8th on Prop 205!
Religious leaders, community leaders, law enforcement and parents all over the state join with us promoting this position. Find our more at noprop205.com or contact one of us to hear our in-depth perspectives. Then please vote NO on Proposition 205.”
Various other civic and community leaders are also opposing Proposition 205 such as Arizona Governor Doug Ducey.
