1st Yuma “Breakfast with Champions”

“It is sports, it is health, it’s a catalyst for social change for people with disabilities”, Isaac Sanft is talking about the Arizona Special Olympics, where he serves as the senior director of support programs. The Special Olympics is getting ready for a huge milestone in Yuma, their inaugural “Breakfast With Champions”.

“This breakfast is about showing the community what our athletes are all about, that they are capable and that they are very talented one way we do that is with sports”, said Sanft.

Three hundred people from across Yuma are expected to attend the event Wednesday morning at The Palms RV Resort. The athletes are all part of a special program through the Special Olympics called Unified Sports.

“The unified program is about bringing people from different backgrounds together succeeding together”, said Sanft.

Sanft says the Yuma community has been very supportive.

“All 5 high schools in Yuma are participating in unified sports, about 800 athletes are affected by that and it’s a way for the community to see they have champions in their own community”, said Sanft.

It’s these emotional stories of courage that will be put on display at the “Breakfast with Champions” and the Arizona Special Olympics hopes it all makes a difference.

“We hope anyone attending this or really in the distance of our voice will see the abilities of our athletes and will allow them to be valuable members of our society”, said Sanft.

“Breakfast with Champions” is by invite only but there are several ways and opportunities to help the local Arizona Special Olympics.
