Poll workers needed in Imperial County

Are you interested in getting more involved this election season?

If so, the Imperial County Registrar of Voters office is in urgent need for poll workers for the November 8th Presidential Election.

The Office of Registrar’s says that there is always a need for poll workers and volunteers during election season, and if those spots fill up, they have a reserve list to prepare for any last minute cancelations.

“Usually we hire 300 poll workers for every election, especially for this one since it is presidential. We do have 54 polling sites… You actually get insight of how the election process is done, because a lot of people think elections is just one day but it’s not,” said Josie Morales, Office Technician.

The election process usually consists of two months of preparation before election day, and then a two-month post process follows.

Although it’s a volunteer position, there is a stipend of 65 dollars for a full day work, and 15 dollars in pay for a three-hour training process.

We spoke to a past poll worker who said his experience was a stepping stone to him working in the Registrars of Voters Office today.

“I actually worked this past minor election, it was a local election here in El Centro and it is a pretty good experience, it is a good insight of how the voting system actually works and you get to meet a lot of people…right now I’m a technician and I work with the voting machines, so that is basically my job here,” explained Francisco Badilla, Office Assistant.
