Man knocks down pole with water tanker truck

Yuma police said a man that may have been under the influence of alcohol knocked down an APS power pole with a water tanker truck.

The Yuma Police Department said 29-year-old Gregory McKay entered the construction zone, located in the 3000 Block of 24th St. Monday evening.

Police believe McKay gained access to a water tanker truck belonging to DPE Construction and drove it around the construction area.

Officers said shortly after McKay struck and knocked down an APS power pole and struck the walls to a home near 31 st Ave. and 24th St. Police said McKay finally crashed into another heavy piece of construction equipment where he came to rest.

McKay was taken by ambulance to Yuma Regional Medical Center with minor injuries from the collision. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Total damages are estimated to be around $45,000 to $50,000.

This case is still under investigation.
