YPD gets DOJ grant for body cameras

The Yuma Police Department said they received a grant of almost $105,000 to purchase body cameras. The grant came from the U.S. Department of Justice.

The money will be used for research and development of a body-worn camera purchase project, research and draft policy and program implementation. Officers said this grant requires a City of Yuma match, which will be satisfied through in-kind implementation and RICO funds.

Pending Yuma City Council approval, the Yuma Police Department’s goal is to buy 70 body-worn cameras and 12 docking stations, the majority of which will be used for our Patrol Division.

During the 2016 grant cycle the Yuma Police Department is one of 106 law enforcement agencies across the United States to receive this funding.
