Fire at Gowan building in Yuma

The Yuma Fire Department responded to a fire alarm from the Gowan Company Building, located at 390 Main St. in Yuma Friday morning. Firefighters said when they arrived they found smoke coming from the building.

A portion of the wall appeared to have blown outward and flames were visible inside. Firefighters said they were able to reach and extinguish the blaze.

Damage was contained to the southwest section of the building where the fire originated, and included both a small amount of fire damage and damage from what appeared to have been a moderate explosion in a work area.

YFD said there was no one in the building at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. Fire investigators are working to determine the cause but does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
