California lawmakers and Hollywood unions hold free speech rally

LOS ANGELES (KYMA, NBC) - California lawmakers and Hollywood unions are holding a rally Monday.

According to a press release obtained by NBC News, the rally in regards to them defending "Americans' rights to free speech and against the FCC's threats and intimidation."

The rally, according to the press release, will also talk about how ABC suspending Jimmy Kimmel Live! is impacting creative industries in Hollywood, "from artists and writers to the crews that support filming and production."

The press release says Congresswoman Laura Friedman (D-Calif.) is leading the rally, and is joined by the following lawmakers and unions:

  • Congressman Ted Lieu (D-Calif.)
  • Writers Guild of America (WGA)
  • Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-Calif.)
  • SAG-AFTRA
  • Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (D-Calif.)
  • Directors Guild of America (DGA)
  • Congressman Gil Cisneros (D-Calif.)
  • Teamsters
  • Congressman Brad Sherman (D-Calif.)
  • International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE)
