Locals participate in Salute Your Heroes 5K/10K Run

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Locals across Yuma County got the chance to go for a run in honor of Veteran's Day.

The Salute Your Heroes 5K/10K Run took place at West Wetlands Park from 8:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

This is part of the City of Yuma's annual Fun Run & Walk Season, which kicked off last month at Desert Sun Stadium.

Nathan Zack, the Recreation Program Supervisor, shared how this event honors our military as well as shared how events like these help locals stay active.

"Being as close as it is to Veterans Day, we took a good opportunity to salute our service members and our first responders and thank them for their service," Zack shared. "It's always good to have activities...to do good things to stay active, stay healthy, stay a participant with it, and so we're just happy to be out here and put this on for our runners."

If you missed out on Saturday's run, the City of Yuma is teaming up with Onvida Health to host the Turkey Trot next Saturday to celebrate Thanksgiving. To learn more about it, click here.

They will also hold another run as part of the series next month to coincide with Christmas. To learn more about it, click here.
