Yuma Military Appreciation Day honors local service members

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma community came together today to celebrate Yuma Military Appreciation Day, an annual event dedicated to honoring those who serve in the armed forces.

Hosted by the Yuma Navy League Council, the event took place on Main Street in Yuma, featuring live demonstrations, informational booths, and a block party atmosphere.

This year's celebration brought together active-duty military, veterans, and their families, alongside 32 local veteran service agencies and personnel from the Marine Corps, Army, and Department of Veterans Affairs.

Attendees had the opportunity to explore history exhibits, watch live K-9 and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) robotic demonstrations, and connect with local organizations providing services to military families.

Brenda Smith, a chaplain for Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) District 1 of Arizona, shared the significance of the event: "It's a great time. All the veterans come out to support the active duty people. The active duty people are out here supporting the veterans...a lot of camaraderie. The City of Yuma is such a great support to us."

The event served as both a celebration and a show of support for past and present service members, reinforcing Yuma’s strong ties to the military.
