Imperial Valley Symphony’s Night at the Movies!

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Classical music and movie lovers need to look no further for their weekend plans.

The Imperial Valley Symphony will be performing some of the most iconic sounds throughout the history of cinema during their "Night at the Movies" taking place this Saturday, March 8 at Jimmie Cannon Theater on the campus of Southwest High School in El Centro.

"This performance goes beyond the norm of a regular symphony concert," said Dr. Matthew Busse, conductor and orchestra director with the Imperial Valley Symphony. "We are going to be playing music from some of the most famous movies, like Jurassic Park and Star Wars."

Throughout the performance, the orchestra will be accompanied by selected clips from each of the films. Dr. Busse also said that they will perform a special arrangement from Schindler's List.

"We have a soloist coming from San Diego, and he's gonna be playing the cello, so it'll be a solo cello for the Schindler's list performance," said Busse.

The Imperial Valley Symphony consists of local musicians from the Imperial Valley and some musicians from the Yuma Orchestra. Dr. Busse also teaches Southwest High School and instructs their musical program. Some students from his class will also be included in the performance.

"Southwest High School has such an tremendous musical program," said Busse. "The Jimmy Cannon Theater is also amazing facility to host these type of events for those who come and wanna take part of this and want to just enjoy a night of music."
