Career Expert Courtney Nelson says a 'Letter of Recommendation' can make a major impact

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - When it comes to getting the leg up on the competition when vying for a job everything is at play. Whether you have acquired a substantial amount of volunteering hours, awards, or promotions anything to separate you from your competition.

Courtney Nelson with the Goodwill Career Center of Yuma says that a detailed letter of recommendation may just be the ace in the hole you need to set yourself apart.

In order to achieve perfection, the very act of obtaining these gems takes finesse. First, Nelson says to pick an author who has the time to write a note-worthy letter.

Choose someone who knows your value and who has a vested interest in your success. Nelson says that this letter has to be more than just a few words it should have an introduction, an overview, a personal story, and a closing.

This letter will be both a window into your past as well as a premonition into your future. If you have questions regarding a letter of recommendation, you can visit your local Goodwill Career Center.
