YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Students across the Yuma community gathered last month "to give back to the community in honor of National TRIO Day," according to a press release from Arizona Western College (AWC).

AWC says the event took place on February 22, was hosted by Fourth Ave Junior High School, and featured middle school, high school and college students from across Yuma.

AWC also says 63 students from their TRIO programs, such as KEYS, Talent Search and Upward Bound, participated in and volunteered for the following service projects:

  • Yuma Community Food Bank
  • Crossroads Mission
  • Saddles of Joy
  • Haven Health Yuma
  • Amberly's Place Thrift Shoppe
  • Crossroads Mission Thrift Store
  • Jessie's Closet Foster Child Resource Center

TRIO Programs Director Michelle Thomas reflected on the event saying, "TRIO works because of our community," and thanked Jose Cazares, Principal of Fourth Ave Junior High School, for hosting the event.
