5th-grade essay contest

Winners to receive cash award, still taking submissions

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Students in the 5th grade have an opportunity to start saving for college through Arizona's Education Savings Plan. It's called AZ529.

Students can win $529 towards a savings fund just by writing an essay.

Participants are being asked about their dream job and how they plan to achieve it in the future. The essay is simply three paragraphs, with no more than than 350 words.

So far, the state has not received any submissions from Yuma County 5th graders. But it's not too late. Submissions are being accepted until May 29 on the contest page.

"The AZ529 plan helps families save for future education. Whether at a university, community college, or career training program. More than $10,000 will be distributed to 20 students from every Arizona county to help save for their future education," says Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee.

If no one from the County participates, the money will simply be forfeited.
