IVC to launch largest nursing cohort for fall semester
IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial Valley College (IVC) says, "A record number of nursing students will begin their training" at the campus for the fall semester.
In a press release, the program is said to be doubling "its entry-level Registered Nursing (RN) enrollment and increases total capacity across multiple pathways," making the expansion "the largest single cohort in the college's 60-plus-year history" as well as addressing "the growing demand for nurses in the region."
IVC says the upcoming enrollment cycle will accept the following students:
- 60 entry-level RN students, which is an increase from 30
- 20 Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs)-to-RN Bridge students
- 36 LVN entry-level students, which is an increase from 24
"This expansion represents a transformative step for our program and the regional healthcare system. By welcoming more students than ever before, we are addressing the previous barrier encountered by eligible applicants not being accepted into our nursing program due to competitive enrollment space availability and also positively impacting the nursing shortage while creating new opportunities for those eager to enter the field."
Daniel Ortiz, Associate Dean of Nursing and Allied Health, Imperial Valley College

IVC says they're offering the following pathways into the nursing profession "to meet the diverse needs of students:"
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program: A two-year program preparing students for the NCLEX-RN exam and licensure as a Registered Nurse. Admission is based on prerequisites, competitive GPA, TEAS exam scores, and a multi-criteria selection process.Â
- LVN to RN Bridge Program: LVNs can transition to RNs through an advanced placement track that can be completed in two semesters and one intersession course.Â
- LVN Program: Provides training for students to become Licensed Vocational Nurses, with a selection process that admits 36 students per cohort.Â
- RN to BSN Pathway: Graduates of the ADN program can simultaneously pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) through transfer partnerships with institutions such as Azusa Pacific University, Grand Canyon University, and San Diego State University, Imperial Valley campus.
