Imperial Valley campus signs agreement for students to continue higher education
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - An Imperial Valley university signs an agreement with a city to make it easier for students to continue with their higher education.
San Diego State University Imperial Valley Campus and the City of Imperial signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday night.
The local college will bring several services to the community.
"We will do financial aid workshops, we will help students apply for university to become SDSU ready, and we also invite the community [so] we can come for a workshop or a talk," said Gina Nuñez, SDSU Imperial Valley Dean.
"Make more availability for the adults or young adults that want to enroll in San Diego State. [They] can come here and do the registration,” said City of Imperial Mayor James Tucker.
The goal is to enroll more local students, so they don't have to go out of town to seek higher education.
"And we are here to create opportunities for the students of the Valley and make sure they have access to public health education, nursing, criminal justice, teacher education, social work. We got fabulous degrees," said Dean Nuñez.
"Just encourage everyone to take advantage of this and continue with their education," expressed Mayor Tucker.
San Diego State University will be serving the Imperial Students at the City's library.
Even though the agreement was just signed Wednesday night, more than 20 students have already enrolled to the San Diego State University Imperial Valley Campus.
