Arizona Western College breaks ground on new Manufacturing Training Facility

WELLTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Developing new educational opportunities in our communities that can lead to higher-paying jobs.

Arizona Western College (AWC) broke ground on its new Manufacturing Training Center in Wellton Thursday morning.

The college says the new facility will provide student with specialized training in areas like electrical technology, solar installation, and broadband fiber optics.

A recent graduate of the program, Hector Zepeda, explains how future students will benefit from the big investment.

"It's not ordinary classes where you feel bored, it's very nice, and you want to come to school every day… And many people have a shortage of trade workers, so it's good that more people get to do these jobs that some people don't want to do," says Zepeda.

Also in attendance was Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, who was honored by AWC for securing 6.3 million dollars in funding for the project through a state program focused on growing and strengthening Arizona's economy.
