Airlines could face fines over flight cuts during government shutdown
(CNN, KYMA) - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is warning major airlines about possible violations during the government shutdown.
The Trump Administration began limiting flights at 40 major airports on November 7.
Officials said the cuts were needed to ease pressure on air traffic controllers working without pay.
In new letters sent to the airlines, the FAA said some carriers may have exceeded those limits. Violations could bring a fine of up to $75,000 per flight.
The agency did not say which carriers received the letters. It only said it is investigating whether "certain airlines" followed the emergency order.
