Holiday travelers face snowstorms and arctic cold

(CNN, KYMA) - Thanksgiving is Thursday so many Americans are traveling Wednesday, but depending on their routes, weather could be a challenge.

Some Thanksgiving travelers face brutal snowstorms and blizzards, and an arctic blast is continuing across the northern U.S.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says several roads near Fargo closed Tuesday, and the National Weather Service reports at least eight inches of snowfall in parts of the state.

Officials say semi-trucks jackknifed and blocked a road in Minnesota, leading to a long pile-up of vehicles, but no injuries.

At several major airports, forecasters expect possible travel delays and cancelations. That's the outlook for Chicago, Boston, New York, and farther down the East Coast.

The other concern is bitter cold that's spreading east and south.
