Company behind Tilly Norwood’s creation release music video speaking to the critics

LOS ANGELES (CBS, KYMA) - A new rising starlet has Hollywood all a buzz as the company who created Tilly Norwood released a new music video speaking directly to the critics.

Norwood may look like a star, but she's entirely AI-generated. Her, or its, first music video is a tongue-in-cheek response to the backlash she's faced since her debut five months ago.

Her creators at Particle6 argue Norwood isn't a replacement for human artists, but a tool controlled by people.

SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin shared his thoughts on Norwood when he was interviewed by CBS News back in December.

"Avatar and characters seem like fair labels. Actress, not so much," Astin expressed.

Netflix's co-CEO Ted Sarandos says AI is expanding creativity rather than replacing it.

"AI is going to enable storytellers to tell stories that otherwise would have been impossible," Sarandos explained.

As the unions representing Hollywood's writers and actors push for consent and compensation, studios and streamers are also making power moves.

Last week, Netflix announced it acquired InterPositive, an AI company co-founded by Ben Affleck, which he spoke about to podcast host Joe Rogan earlier this year.

"Don't think it's very likely that it can, it's gonna be able to write anything meaningful or, and in particular, that it's gonna be making movies like from whole cloth, like Tilly Norwood, like that's [nonsense]," Affleck remarked.

Elaine Low, a staff writer at "The Ankler," says Norwood's music video doesn't show what AI can do, but what it cannot.

"Anybody who finds it kind of cheesy, might point to this music video and say like, 'Hey, you know, you can pour as much technology into a project as you want, and it still won't necessarily yield an Oscar winning project,'" Low said.

Norwood's creators say it took 18 humans to bring her music video to life. To watch the music video, click here.
