November 26 marks 77 years since the first instant camera was sold

(CNN, KYMA) - It's been 77 years since the first instant camera went on sale.

On this day back to 1948, the Land Camera was first offered at Jordan Marsh Department Store in Boston for around $90. Even at that high price point, it sold out within minutes.

The device was the brainchild of Edwin Land, who invented it after his three-year-old daughter asked him why she couldn't see pictures right away.

That started the boom of instant photos, which for decades competed with Kodak's film that had to be developed.

Digital killed instant cameras for a while, but they're back and you can buy them as of now.
