SPECIAL REPORT: Local nurse serves 34 years helping kids
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - We're highlighting another outstanding leader this Black History Month: A very special retired nurse that's been saving lives for over three decades.
Edna Mae Simon Kidd is a retired pediatric registered nurse that's worked 34 years at Onvida Health.
Before she came to Yuma, Kidd was a licensed practical nurse and worked seven years at Saint Elizabeth hospital in Texas. Her husband says he's amazed by all of her accomplishments.
"I'm proud of her. She's very good. She's kind, loveable. She's just a beautiful wife, and I appreciate her," said husband Charles Kidd.
The mother of five also worked at several Yuma nursing homes and five years at the Yuma Regional Home Care as a pediatric IV nurse in the field.
Edna has also received awards for her outstanding care. She received the Superstar Award after saving a newborn's life when they went into cardiac arrest.
"I had a blue baby in my hands trying to do mouth to mouth while I dial 911. And to God be the glory, the baby turned out fine. He did go have cardiac surgery and that young man, now I think he should be around 22- or 23-years-old today doing well," said Kidd.
She shares advice for those who are interested in the pediatric field.
"The main advice I have for anybody that's planning to look at any type of nursing career is it's important to know that you know that you know on the inside you can do this. So I would say become a nurse aid first because once you've mastered that, that then you're ready and you good. You can handle anything," said Kidd.
