Onvida Health speaks out on transparency regarding property sales
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - In light of recent transparency concerns regarding a property sale, Onvida Health is reassuring patients that they are receiving the best care possible.
The hospital talked about the sale of its Cancer Center building and why they say there's no need to panic.
In order to provide additional cash reserves, Onvida Health confirmed that the building occupied by its Cancer Center was sold during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the organization, cancer care in Yuma remains at the cutting edge despite the building being on a long-term lease.
Dr. Abhinav Chandra, the Medical Director of Onvida Health Cancer Center, says, "The building doesn't provide cancer care; it is the beautiful and hard-working people inside of it…We are not going anywhere. We are here to support our families, patients, and friends. Our friends live in this community, we live in this community, we call this community home."
Yuma County has one of the lowest rates of cancer mortality in the state according to the Arizona Department of Health Services.
Machele Headington, the Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Onvida Health, says whether the building is owned or leased, comprehensive and quality care always comes first.
"We've done several things to make it comfortable like Art Heals where the community has contributed artwork, but we're growing. So, very soon we'll probably need more space to grow and we'll always have our eyes out to assure we're meeting the needs of those patients," says Headington.
The hospital adds that if any questions or concerns remain, the public is welcome to come for free tours of the Cancer Center.
