1 in 5 adults used tobacco in 2020, slightly decreasing number from 2019
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV/CNN) - The number of tobacco users in the United States dropped slightly in 2020 compared to the year before.
A study from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention shares under 20% of adults which is about 47 million people who admit to using cigarettes, cigars and pipes in 2020 and a study from 2019 reported under 21%.
The CDC defines the smoking standard as having smoked 100 or more cigarettes within one's lifetime and smoking every day or some days during the survey process.
The findings also show that men are almost twice as likely to light cigarettes, cigars or pipes compared to women.
The most common tobacco product is the cigarette.
