At the peak of the global coronavirus lockdown, carbon emissions dropped 17%.

(FOX News) - The coronavirus lockdown orders may have been good for the environment.

A study published in the journal "Nature Climate Change" Tuesday (5/19) says daily carbon emissions dropped by 17% worldwide in early April when compared with the mean 2019 levels.

The dip in global emission rates was reported at the peak of global lockdown orders.

The study says surface transportation -- including the use of cars and buses -- accounted for nearly half of the decrease in emissions during the confinement period.
