EC Border Patrol agents seize $112K worth of meth on Highway 86

A man suspected of smuggling methamphetamine was arrested on Monday morning by the El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents at the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint.

Agents say the 37-year-old man was driving a white KIA Rondo and approached the checkpoint where a canine alerted to the vehicle and was sent to secondary for further investigation.

According to agents, they discovered seven packages hidden inside the vehicle’s floorboard where agents later determined that the content was consistent with characteristics of methamphetamine.

Agents say the total weight of the methamphetamine is 49.8 pounds, worth $112,470.

The man, a United States citizen, and the narcotics were turned over to Drug Enforcement Administration.
