How screwworms might affect beef prices

(CNN, KYMA) - Shoppers are wondering what the return of the screwworm could mean for their grocery bills.

The USDA has confirmed at least three cases of the flesh-eating parasite in Texas cattle this week.

Experts say that's unlikely to cause beef prices to rise right away, but if the screwworm cases turn into a full-blown outbreak, that's when shoppers could face steady price hikes.

Beef prices are already at record highs right now because of smaller herds.
