Business in California produces artificial Christmas trees

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (CBS, KYMA) - A California business is one of the only companies in the United States that still makes artificial Christmas trees, avoiding the tariffs that importers are facing.

Lee Display in Fairfield, California produces around 10,000 fake trees each year. It also makes tinsel and other Christmas decorations.

"Almost everything that we make is made in the US and used with American materials...I don't think there's many other companies that manufacture tinsel or garland in the US. It's all manufactured overseas," said James Latino, Vice President of Lee Display.

Prices for artificial trees rose 10% to 15% this year because tariffs, according to a Christmas tree trade group.

Even though Lee Display makes its own trees, it will still be affected by tariffs.

The company didn't have to import lights or other decorations from China this year, because it already had enough in stock, but now supplies are running low, so next year the company will have to pay more to import them.
