Hillshire Brands Company recalls about 58 million pounds of corn dog and sausage on a stick products

(NBC, KYMA) - The Hillshire Brands Company has recalled about 58-million-pounds of corn dog and sausage on a stick products due to concerns about possible wood contaminates in the batter.

The issue was discovered after the company received multiple consumer complaints, including five instances involving injuries.

Over 25 different products are included in the recall, mostly from name brands like State Fair and Jimmy Dean.

According to the announcement, those products were sold by popular retailers such as Walmart, Meijer, and Target, and were shipped to school districts and Department of Defense facilities nationwide.

The release clarified the products distributed to schools were from commercial sales and not part of food provided by the USDA for the national school lunch program.

The recall notice says the affected products, carrying establishment number "EST-582" or "P-894," should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
