Nvidia to invest $100 billion in OpenAI

(NBC, KYMA) - Chipmaker Nvidia and OpenAI announced a partnership between two of the highest profile leaders in AI.

Nvidia is planning to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI and will deploy at least 10-gigawatts of Nvidia chips to their infrastructure.

The partnership will be finalized in the next few weeks. The first phase is targeted to come online late 20-26.

In a statement, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman said they will be utilizing "What [they are] building with Nvidia to both create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale."

Nvidia also invested billions in OpenAI back in 2024 which could lead to antitrust scrutiny.

However, the Justice Department and FTC made a deal last year, clearing the way for potential antitrust investigations into Microsoft, OpenAI, and Nvidia's role in the AI industry.
