Fast food chains change up their menus to entice inflation-way customers

NEW YORK (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Some fast food chains are changing up their menus, offering discounts and new items, to entice inflation-wary customers.

Beginning next month, McDonald's is bringing its beloved "Snack Wrap" back to the menu permanently after nearly a decade.

The revival comes as McDonald's has seen the largest decline in same restaurant sales since the pandemic, a 3.6% drop in the first quarter of this year.

Earlier this week, Popeyes began selling its own Chicken Snack Wrap for a limited time.

"Food is a need to have. Dining out is a nice to have and businesses are telling us people are skipping out on dessert, they're sharing more items, and the restaurant industry they're basically saying, 'Look, we have to provide excellent customer service and discounts and value.' I actually spoke to the CEO of Red Lobster yesterday and he said you gotta be on people's favorites list otherwise they are not going to spend their money with you in this environment."

The latest consumer pulse report from KPMG found consumers expect to spend 7% less each month on restaurants this summer.
