Chinese leaders react to President Trump’s tariffs
(CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Chinese leaders are hitting back against President Trump's tariffs on foreign imports despite the country's own economic problems.
Beijing announced its retaliating against the U.S. by imposing additional tariffs of up to 15% on a wide array of American farm imports including chicken and beef.
The development comes after the president raised tariffs on Chinese imports to 20% across the board.
The growing trade war is looming over the National People's Congress this week, the most important annual event on China's political calendar.
"As this sort of rivalry goes on there will come to a point where we can have a good settlement," said Lin Shun Chao, a Chinese delegate.
Earlier, the Chinese embassy issued a statement saying in part, "If war is what the U.S. wants, be it a tariff war, a trade war or any other type of war, we're ready to fight till the end."
