Gas prices on the rise
(NBC) - You may have noticed gas prices across the country are on the rise. According to AAA, the national average today rose to $3.73 per gallon, up from $3.58 per gallon a week ago.
Hitting the road is hurting the wallet this summer with gas prices reaching an eight-month high.
The national average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $3 and 73 cents on Friday, according to data from Triple AAA.
That's 15 cents higher than last week, and 18 cents higher than last month.
Analysts blame a surge in oil prices after production cuts by overseas producers and production cutbacks at u-s refineries due to the hot weather.
Some consumers, forced to spend more of fuel, have had to cutback on other things.
"I have to take money out of groceries to make sure I have gas to get to the store. So it's like a lose lose situation basically," said Dana Price, a customer.
"You're going to look at it and say, oh I was here last week, and it was such and such and this price. And now I come back again this week. It's another price," said Georgia Wilson, a customer.
According to Triple AAA, average prices are still well below what they were a year ago when they were at $4.27 per gallon.
And for the record, the highest national average was reached last June when prices topped out at a national average of $5.01 per gallon of regular gas.
