U.S. Senators pushing to get passengers compensated for delayed, cancelled flights
(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - We are in the midst of one of the busiest travel seasons of the year and flight cancellations and delays have become all too common since the pandemic.
That has prompted several Democratic Senators to demand passengers get compensated, even more when airlines mess up.
The Senators urged Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to take action.
They want airlines to pay passengers secondary costs such as hotel rooms or food when flights get canceled or are significantly delayed.
The airline industry already has doled out more than $600 million in refunds to passengers over delays and cancellations.
So far, there has been no reaction from the Transportation Department or the airline industry on the Senators' request.
