BBB’s John Hessinger warns consumers to do some research before signing anything

But, Hessinger says that before you sign on the dotted line, you need to ask what their cancellation policies are in the event that the hype is short-lived.

If you're buying high-end fitness equipment, you need to see what the store's return policy is and or warranties. The internet is filled with services offering people everything from nutritional supplements to support at a cost of course.

Hessinger says that's where the Better Business Bureau's website comes into play. Consumers can utilize the site to see reviews and complaints filed against a number of businesses both online and brick and mortar.

The site can also be used to spot potential scams preying on people's need to improve themselves. The BBB offers its ScamTracker page with business listings and tips on how not to fall victim to trending scams.
